Scout & Scholar Brewing Co. is a brewpub in the heart of Bardstown, created as a gathering place to share craft beer and good food. Its founders felt the Bourbon Capital of the World lacked a place devoted to craft beer and set out to fix that. The name honors the two brothers who founded Bardstown. William Bard, called the Scout, was a frontiersman, land agent and surveyor who laid out the town in 1780; a year earlier he had mapped Louisville’s first lots for its lottery. David Bard, the Scholar, was a Princeton graduate who studied theology, became a Presbyterian minister and hoped to bring the community together. The brewpub sees itself as adding a new tradition to the town’s history of storytelling and distilling, with a mission of making great beer, great food and great memories. It offers online orders and a shop.
